International Ophthalmology Conference

Uveitis

Uveitis, an inflammation of the uvea, which encompasses the iris, ciliary body, and choroid layers of the eye, presents a complex challenge in ophthalmology. It manifests through symptoms such as eye redness, sensitivity to light, blurred vision, and discomfort, potentially leading to vision impairment if untreated. Diagnosis involves thorough eye examinations and sometimes supplementary tests like imaging or blood work to pinpoint the underlying cause, which can range from infections to autoimmune conditions or injuries.

Treatment strategies aim to quell inflammation and alleviate symptoms, often employing corticosteroid eye drops, oral medications, or injections directly into the eye. Vigilant management is crucial, as untreated uveitis can progress to severe complications such as glaucoma or cataracts. Timely intervention and ongoing care are essential to safeguarding eye health and preserving long-term vision.
