Opthalmic Inflammation

Opthalmic Inflammation

Ophthalmic inflammation encompasses the inflammatory conditions affecting various structures of the eye, such as the conjunctiva, sclera, cornea, iris, and uvea. This inflammation can stem from diverse origins including infections (bacterial, viral, fungal), autoimmune disorders like uveitis, trauma, or allergic responses. Symptoms typically include redness, pain, sensitivity to light, blurred vision, and in severe cases, vision impairment. Diagnosis involves a thorough examination by an ophthalmologist, often using advanced tools like slit-lamp biomicroscopy or optical coherence tomography (OCT). Treatment strategies vary based on the underlying cause and severity of inflammation. Options may range from topical or systemic antibiotics, corticosteroids, immunosuppressants, to antiviral medications. Timely management is crucial to prevent complications and preserve eye health, necessitating regular follow-ups for monitoring and adjustment of treatment plans as needed.
