Eye Allergy

Eye Allergy

Eye allergies, also known as allergic conjunctivitis, occur when the eyes react to allergens such as pollen, dust mites, pet dander, or mold. Symptoms include redness, itching, tearing, and swelling of the conjunctiva, the thin membrane covering the eye. Seasonal allergic conjunctivitis is linked to pollen exposure, while perennial allergic conjunctivitis persists year-round due to indoor allergens. Treatment involves avoiding allergens, using artificial tears, and applying cold compresses. Over-the-counter antihistamine or decongestant eye drops can alleviate symptoms. In more severe cases, prescription medications such as corticosteroid eye drops or immunotherapy may be necessary. Regular eye examinations are crucial for proper diagnosis and management.
