Eye Disease

Eye diseases encompass a broad spectrum of conditions affecting the visual system, ranging from minor irritations to severe impairments. Among the most prevalent are cataracts, where the lens becomes cloudy, causing vision to blur; glaucoma, which damages the optic nerve often due to increased intraocular pressure; and age-related macular degeneration, which affects central vision over time. Diabetic retinopathy, associated with diabetes, damages retinal blood vessels, while retinal detachment involves the separation of the retina from its underlying layers, requiring immediate attention.

Other notable conditions include conjunctivitis (pink eye), an inflammation of the eye's outermost layer, and amblyopia (lazy eye), where proper vision fails to develop in one eye during childhood. Regular eye exams are crucial for early detection and treatment of these conditions, as many eye diseases can progress silently until irreversible damage occurs. Maintaining overall health and protecting eyes from UV radiation are essential for preventing some eye diseases.
