Refractive Surgery

Refractive Surgery

Refractive surgery is a cutting-edge field in ophthalmology that addresses common vision issues such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism by reshaping the cornea to enhance light focus on the retina. Procedures like LASIK, PRK, and SMILE employ advanced laser technology to achieve this. LASIK involves creating a flap in the cornea, while PRK reshapes its surface directly, and SMILE uses a flapless technique. Refractive lens exchange substitutes the natural lens with an artificial one. Ideal candidates are typically adults with stable vision and no underlying eye conditions. Benefits include reduced reliance on glasses or contacts. Though complications like dry eyes or halos are possible, they're uncommon. Before undergoing surgery, thorough evaluation by an ophthalmologist is crucial to ensure suitability and maximize the potential for improved vision and quality of life.
