Refraction Test

Refraction Test

In ophthalmology, a refraction test is crucial for determining a person's eyeglass prescription. It assesses how well one's eyes bend light, aiding in the diagnosis of refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. During the test, the ophthalmologist or optometrist uses a phoropter or a trial frame with different lenses to measure the eye's ability to focus light accurately onto the retina. The patient views an eye chart and provides feedback on which lenses provide clearer vision. By refining the lens powers that correct any vision issues, the practitioner ensures the prescription optimally corrects the patient's vision. Regular refraction tests are essential as vision can change over time, affecting overall eye health and quality of life.
