Cones, predominantly in the central retina (macula), specialize in detecting colors and work best in bright light, especially in the fovea centralis, which supports sharp central vision.
These photoreceptors play a fundamental role in visual perception. Dysfunction or damage to them can lead to various vision impairments such as night blindness, color blindness, or reduced visual acuity.
