Color blindness, a visual impairment affecting color perception, occurs due to anomalies in the cone cells of the retina. This genetic condition is more prevalent in males, following an X-linked recessive inheritance pattern. The most frequent form is red-green color blindness, where distinguishing between these colors becomes challenging. Less common variants include blue-yellow color blindness and complete color blindness, where no colors are seen. Diagnostic tools like the Ishihara Color Test, featuring colored dot patterns, help identify these deficiencies. Although there's no cure, individuals can use color-corrective lenses and specialized technology to better navigate their environment, improving daily life and functionality.
