Phacoemulsification

Phacoemulsification is a sophisticated surgical method designed for cataract removal. It utilizes ultrasonic vibrations to fragment the cloudy lens into microscopic pieces, which are then gently suctioned out through a small incision. This technique is a significant advancement from older methods that required larger incisions and more invasive procedures.

During phacoemulsification, a tiny probe enters the eye to emit ultrasound waves, effectively liquefying the cataract while minimizing harm to surrounding tissues. Following the removal of the cataract, an artificial intraocular lens (IOL) is typically implanted to restore clear vision. This outpatient procedure is highly efficient with minimal risks. Phacoemulsification has transformed cataract surgery by offering faster recovery times, improved outcomes, and reduced reliance on corrective lenses post-surgery.
