Intraocular Lens

Intraocular Lens

Intraocular lenses (IOLs) are prosthetic devices implanted in the eye to replace the eye's natural lens when it is removed during cataract surgery. These lenses are crucial for restoring vision, as they help focus light onto the retina, enabling clear vision. IOLs come in various types, including monofocal, which correct vision for one distance (typically distance vision), and multifocal or accommodating lenses, which can correct vision for both near and far distances, reducing dependency on glasses post-surgery. The choice of IOL depends on factors such as the patient's lifestyle, visual needs, and overall eye health. Advances in IOL technology continue to improve outcomes, offering patients better vision correction and quality of life after cataract surgery. Regular follow-ups with an ophthalmologist are essential to monitor the lens' performance and ensure long-term eye health.
