Contact Lenses

Contact Lenses

Contact lenses are vital tools in ophthalmology, offering corrective vision solutions with comfort and convenience. These thin, curved lenses sit directly on the eye's surface, correcting refractive errors like myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism, and presbyopia (age-related loss of near vision). They work by refracting light to focus it precisely on the retina, improving visual acuity without the bulk of eyeglasses.

Contact lenses come in various types: soft lenses, made of flexible plastics for comfort; rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses, allowing more oxygen to reach the cornea; and hybrid lenses combining features of both. They require proper care to prevent infections and ensure longevity. Advancements include daily disposable lenses for hygiene and extended wear options.

While contact lenses offer freedom from glasses, they require a fitting by an eye care professional to ensure proper prescription and fit. Regular check-ups are essential to monitor eye health and ensure continued comfort and effectiveness.
