Scleral Lenses

Scleral Lenses

Scleral lenses are large, gas-permeable contact lenses specially designed to vault over the entire corneal surface and rest on the sclera (the white part of the eye). Unlike traditional contact lenses, which sit directly on the cornea, scleral lenses create a fluid-filled vault over the cornea, providing a smooth optical surface and helping to correct vision problems caused by irregularities in the cornea's shape.

These lenses are used for various eye conditions, including keratoconus, irregular astigmatism, and dry eyes, offering better comfort and visual acuity compared to other options. By maintaining a reservoir of fluid between the lens and the cornea, scleral lenses also provide continuous hydration, making them suitable for individuals suffering from severe dry eye syndrome. They require a fitting process by an eye care professional to ensure proper sizing and positioning on the eye for optimal vision correction and comfort.
