The ciliary body, situated behind the iris and adjacent to the lens in the eye, is indispensable for vision. One of its primary roles is the production of aqueous humor, a clear fluid that fills the front part of the eye. This fluid nourishes the cornea and lens, maintains intraocular pressure, and ensures the eyeball retains its shape. Comprising ciliary processes and the ciliary muscle, the ciliary body is anatomically complex. The ciliary processes are responsible for secreting aqueous humor, while the ciliary muscle controls the shape of the lens, enabling the eye to focus on objects at varying distances—a process known as accommodation. Issues with the ciliary body can lead to conditions like glaucoma, where impaired fluid drainage increases intraocular pressure, potentially causing optic nerve damage.
