About the Aqueous Humor Session
The aqueous humor is a clear, watery fluid found in the anterior chamber of the eye, between the cornea and the lens. It serves several crucial functions in maintaining eye health. Firstly, it helps maintain intraocular pressure, which is essential for the shape and structure of the eye. Secondly, it provides nutrients like glucose and amino acids to the avascular tissues of the cornea and lens, aiding in their metabolism. Additionally, the aqueous humor contributes to the removal of metabolic wastes from these tissues, ensuring a clear optical pathway for light transmission. The fluid is continually produced by the ciliary body and drained through the trabecular meshwork into Schlemm's canal, regulating its volume and pressure. Imbalances in aqueous humor production or drainage can lead to conditions such as glaucoma, highlighting its critical role in ocular physiology and pathology.
