International Ophthalmology Conference

Choroid

The choroid, nestled between the retina and the sclera, is a pivotal component of the eye's anatomy. Its intricate network of blood vessels not only provides essential nutrients and oxygen to the outer retina, crucial for maintaining sharp vision, but also helps regulate intraocular pressure and temperature. This vascular richness gives the choroid its distinctive dark hue, discernible through the translucent retina during clinical examinations.

Beyond its physiological functions, the choroid's health is paramount in ophthalmology, as conditions like choroiditis or choroidal melanoma can severely impact vision. Thus, understanding the choroid's multifaceted role underscores its significance in both eye health and disease management.
