Astigmatism

Astigmatism

Astigmatism, a prevalent vision issue, arises from irregularities in the corneal or lens curvature, causing light to focus unevenly on the retina. Unlike the spherical shape of a basketball, the cornea in astigmatism resembles that of a football, leading to blurred or distorted vision at various distances. Common symptoms include headaches, eyestrain, and difficulty in seeing clearly both near and far. Astigmatism frequently coexists with nearsightedness or farsightedness. Treatment options range from corrective eyeglasses and contact lenses to surgical procedures like LASIK. Regular eye examinations are crucial for early detection and effective management of astigmatism, as untreated cases can result in persistent visual discomfort and reduced quality of life. Addressing astigmatism promptly ensures optimal visual acuity and long-term eye health.
