Ocular tonometry is a crucial ophthalmological procedure that measures intraocular pressure (IOP) to help diagnose and manage glaucoma. Elevated IOP is a significant risk factor for optic nerve damage, potentially leading to vision loss if not addressed. Several methods are employed to measure IOP, with Goldmann applanation tonometry being the most widely regarded standard, involving a slit lamp. Another common method is non-contact tonometry, or the "air puff" test, which is faster and does not require anesthetic drops. Additionally, Tono-Pen and rebound tonometry are also used. Accurate IOP measurement is essential for the early detection and treatment of glaucoma, ensuring timely intervention to protect vision.
