Ocular Melanoma Treatment

Ocular Melanoma Treatment

Ocular melanoma, a rare malignancy in the eye's melanocytes, demands a comprehensive treatment strategy. Early diagnosis is vital for successful intervention. Treatment modalities include surgical excision, radiation therapy, and laser treatment. Enucleation, the removal of the eye, is considered for advanced stages where vision preservation is unfeasible. Brachytherapy, involving localized radiation, focuses on the tumor while preserving adjacent tissues. Proton beam therapy provides precise radiation targeting, reducing damage to essential ocular structures. Emerging treatments like immunotherapy and targeted drug therapies offer promising adjunctive options. Continuous monitoring and follow-up are critical to identify recurrences or metastasis, ensuring holistic management of ocular melanoma patients.
