Fundus Photography

Fundus Photography

Fundus photography is a crucial diagnostic tool in ophthalmology that involves capturing detailed images of the back of the eye, specifically the retina, optic disc, macula, and blood vessels. This non-invasive procedure helps ophthalmologists assess various eye conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and hypertensive retinopathy. The images obtained through fundus photography provide valuable information about the health of the retina, allowing for early detection and monitoring of eye diseases. High-resolution cameras and specialized lenses are used to capture these images, which are then analyzed for signs of abnormalities such as hemorrhages, exudates, and changes in blood vessel caliber. Fundus photography plays a crucial role in documenting disease progression, guiding treatment decisions, and monitoring the effectiveness of therapies aimed at preserving vision. It is an integral part of routine eye examinations, particularly for patients with systemic conditions that can affect the eyes.
