Eye Examination

Eye Examination

An eye examination is a crucial aspect of ophthalmology, focusing on evaluating vision and eye health. It involves several key steps: assessing visual acuity to determine clarity of sight, checking eye muscle function, examining the retina and optic nerve for signs of disease or damage, measuring intraocular pressure to screen for glaucoma, and evaluating the overall health of the eye's external and internal structures. Specialized tests may include refraction tests to prescribe corrective lenses, slit-lamp biomicroscopy for detailed views of the eye's anterior segment, and dilated eye exams for thorough retina and optic nerve evaluation. Eye examinations are essential for detecting refractive errors, eye diseases like cataracts or macular degeneration, and systemic conditions such as diabetes or hypertension that can affect eye health. Regular eye exams are recommended to maintain optimal vision and overall eye health.
