Title : Role of Rho kinase Inhibitor in traumatic corneal decompensation
Abstract:
Purpose: To illustrate the role of Rho kinase inhibitor, ripasudil in the setting of post traumatic corneal decompensation.
Method: 32 years old male presented with blunt trauma to the left eye with corneal epithelial defect, stromal edema and Grade II hyphema. He was initially managed with topical antibiotics, steroids and cycloplegics and anti glaucoma medications with resolution of hyphema and healed epithelium. However there was persistence of corneal edema and a Rho kinase inhibitor was added to the treatment regimen on Day 5.
Results : There was rapid resolution of corneal edema and improvement in visual acuity within a week.
Conclusion :Ripasudil is a Rho kinase inhibitor which has a role in treatment of corneal endothelial decompensation in Fuch’s endothelial dystrophy and post cataract surgery corneal edema. This case highlights the adjuvant role of Ripasudil in a case of pot traumatic corneal decompensation.
